"Images from the City:" by Arjun Chaudhuri

Arjun Chaudhuri , the poet, painter, translator and academic hails from Silchar in Assam, India. He writes poetry and creative prose in English, and translates literature from five South Asian languages into English. A firm believer in the

narrative and mnemonic potential of images, Arjun is keenly interested in commemorative narratives of the cityscape and works mostly with digital media.

He has produced six poetry collections, three translation anthologies and two critical studies of American fiction till date. His three paintings on Kolkata cityscape, try to capture the images of the city in various moments in time. The painting, 1969 has a special historical significance. Vihanga, explains for itself the incipient desire in the city dwellers to fly the nets through the wings of memory and desire. Short journeys portray the city in its fleeting moments of mad rush and a sense of fragmentation, inherent in the modern cosmopolitan consciousness.
