Guru-Shishya Parampara Series

The tradition of Indian Classical Music is often the legacy handed down by the Gurus to their disciples. It closely follows the oral tradition, where the bandishes, the music styles of different schools or gharanas

are imbibed by the disciples from their Gurus. As history would tell us, music is not just the learning of a few notes but it is the philosophy of life itself. So the disciple often times, absorbs a lot more than music, that

pours forth into music. We begin the Guru-Shishya Parampara Series, with a conversation between Shri Anirban Dasgupta, the youngest son and disciple of Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta, and Meena Banerjee (musicologist), introduced by Shri Debasish Lahiri. The designing and presentation is by Surjo Sengupta.

Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta, represents the pedagogical lineage of the great masters, like Murad Ali Khan, Mohammad Ameer Khan and Radhika Mohan Maitra of the well-known Sarode Gharana of Senia Shahjahanpur. Sri Anirban Dasgupta, who is the torch bearer of his father’s lineage, along with his eldest brother Shri Bhabanishankar

Dasgupta and other disciples like Shri Prattyush Banerjee, talks to Caesurae about his experience of learning music and imbibing lessons on life and music from Pt. Dasgupta.
