Michael Braudy
Michael Braudy is a violinist who specializes in performing and teaching Western classical, Celtic and Indian music. A versatile improviser, he regularly collaborates with poets, storytellers, dancers, theater and mime. Collaborations with storytellers include a longtime association with Diana Wolkstein, with whom he played violin with her stories from around the world.
Michael has given recitals throughout India, including the Calcutta School of Music, American Consulate in Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai, Delhi Music Society, Auroville, Kalimpong and Darjeeling, and the Jaipur International Festival in Rajasthan. From a deep commitment to music for meditation and health, he also gives workshops in Sound and Health through Music, in the US and abroad.
His violin students discover a deeper level of relaxation and grace in their posture and playing. His teachers include, in Western violin, Kazuko Kawamoto, Raphael Bronstein and Dorothy Delay, and in North Indian classical violin, Acharya Roop Verma, Pandit V.G. Jog, Debaprasad and Sulaya Banerjee, and Pandit Krishna Bhatt. He began the study in Irish fiddle with Brian Conway, and has continued to develop Celtic violin throughout travels to Ireland and Scotland and recordings and concerts, and now composes Celtic tunes inspired by Indian ragas.
Michael has recorded a series of ragas for health: Vriddhi (Ragas for Growth), Sumanas (Music for the Heart) and Awakening Peace (Healing Ragas for the World), with Dr. P. Bharathi, who pioneered music for therapy in India, and CD’s of three live concerts: Celtic Afternoon in New York City, From the Ganga to the Tay at Gorgie Church in Edinburgh, and Hymns of the Rig Veda in Scotland.
